The Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney is Australia’s leading zoological garden and features an array of animals from cuddly to slippery to land dwelling to sea animals. You can really get up close and personal and even have your photo taken with so many interesting animals! Taronga Park Zoo offers its own ferry that you can step off and walk straight into the zoo where you can start down one of the walking treks that take you down the sloping hill that the park is situated on to diverse variety of animals. Then once you reach the bottom of hill you jump on the Zoo Sky Safari chair lift to the bottom to begin your next decent down a different path.

The zoo was officially opened back in 1916 on October the 7th and works in conjunction with Dubbo’s Taronga Western Plains Zoo. The Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney is divided into either zoogeographical sections and is home to approximately 2,600 different animals and is spaced out over 21 hectares.

Taronga Park Zoo is located on a sloping hill that faces outwards to the Sydney Harbour, so with every direction you look you will be amazed at the vistas that appears before you, as you take in the famous icon of the city such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. There are many different exhibits to see from koalas to tigers to sea lions and penguins. A must see is the newly developed Great Southern Oceans exhibit that covers 1.2 hectares and holds a variety of fur seals, sea lions, penguins and pelicans..... The kids will just love it and so will you!

The Zoo is leading the way in establishing stronger numbers for many different species to protect them from extinction. Recently they have just welcomed four new elephants from Thailand as well as continuing its exceptional work with their breeding program with many different animals. Where else would you expect to see tall standing giraffes with the city’s skyline in the background or even feel like you are a world away as you make your way through this well planned and beautifully landscaped attraction?

There are many different exhibits that you can look forward to seeing such as the Australian Wetlands, the Australian Rainforest Aviary, the Platypus House, the Australian Nightlife exhibit or Amazonia where there is everything from an American Alligator to a Bolivian Squirrel Monkey. Other exhibits include the Chimpanzee Park and Serpentaria, which says it all, as well as Wild Asia and Cats of Asia just to name a select few. There are too many exhibits to list them all, but needless to say that you will get a taste of the many different animals from all over the world.

The Zoo is welcoming to all visitors, whether you are planning to bring the whole family or arranging for the next school excursion! People of all ages and walks of life will be amazed at the fact that it will seem like you are world away from the moment you step through the front gates.
